Can you please explain the difference between a Flash Port Validator and a Non-Flash Port Validator.
Thanks.

"Flash port" refers to any MEI VN25/AE24 bill acceptor which is capable of "flash" downloading of currency updates or software enhancements. This technology was introduced by MEI in 1999. If your bill acceptor was manufactured before this date, it is "non-flash port" capable and therefore cannot be updated. "Non-flash port" bill acceptors cannot accept the new colorful 2008 $5 bill. All AE26 series bill acceptors are flash port, regardless of manufacture date.

You can check two areas on your bill acceptor to find the "flash port" label. First, check the label on the side of the unit which contains the Model#, Part# and Serial#. The "Flash port" stamp will be at the bottom of this sticker. If you don't see it there, check the rubber grommet covering the RED status led for the "Flash port" stamp. If you're still not sure, slide the bottom sensor assembly out and check to see if the sensor board is green or blue. The old "non-flash port" acceptors have a green sensor board.
